The University of Guelph in Canada is accepting applications for the PhD in Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics (FARE) for Fall 2027 admission.
The program is offered through the Department of Food, Agricultural & Resource Economics and focuses on developing advanced knowledge of economic principles and their application to issues related to food, agriculture, natural resources, the environment, rural areas, and public policy.
The program is research-based and requires the completion of a doctoral dissertation. Students have the opportunity to conduct advanced research in collaboration with faculty members in two main areas:

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the PhD admission requirements, which include:
- Having an appropriate academic background for advanced study in agricultural economics, food economics, resource economics, or a related field.
- Achieving an admission average typically equivalent to a B grade, approximately 73%–76%, or its equivalent.
- Having suitable academic preparation in economics, mathematics, and statistics.
- Advanced knowledge of Microeconomic Theory is preferred.
- Providing evidence of the ability and readiness to conduct advanced research.
- Meeting the University of Guelph’s English language proficiency requirements, where applicable.
- Submitting the GRE General Test, which is required for PhD applicants according to the program’s current information.
