Sports and Adventure Photography Competition 2026 with In-Kind Prizes Worth USD 200,000

The Illume Awards 2026 invites photographers from around the world to submit their best images in the field of adventure and human-powered action sports photography. The competition aims to celebrate photographers who document moments of strength, movement, challenge, and nature, while highlighting the importance of protecting the planet and the natural environments where these images are captured.

The Illume is considered one of the leading global awards dedicated to adventure and action sports photography. It gives amateur and professional photographers the opportunity to showcase their work before an international jury and experts from the fields of photography, sports, and media.

Sport Categories

Each photo must first be submitted under one of the following sport categories:

• Adventure
• Aerial
• Bike
• Climb
• Skate
• Snow
• Surf
• Trail

Theme Categories

After selecting the sport category, the participant must choose a theme category for the photo, including:

• Close-Up
• Emerging
• Innovation
• Lifestyle
• Masterpiece
• Playground
• RAW
• Spirit

• Participation is completely free, and there are no application fees.
• In-kind prizes and professional photography equipment with a total value exceeding USD 200,000.
• The overall winner will receive the title of Overall Winner, a trophy, an advanced camera system, and an exclusive package of partner prizes.
• Winners in the sport categories will receive trophies, prizes, and equipment from the competition partners.
• Winners in the theme categories will receive photography equipment and prizes from the partners.
• Photos by finalists and winners will be displayed on the competition’s official website.
• Selected photos may be published in The Illume Photobook.
• Selected photos may be featured as part of The Illume Exhibit Tour.
• Finalists will receive the official title of Finalist.
• The top 160 finalists will be invited to The Illume Global Winner Award Ceremony.
• All participants who submit at least one photo will receive benefits from the competition partners.

• The competition is open to photographers from all countries around the world.
• Applicants must be 18 years old or older.
• Amateur, emerging, and professional photographers may participate.
• The applicant must be a natural person; submissions from companies or commercial entities are not accepted.
• The photographer must be the owner of the photo and must submit it themselves.
• Third-party submissions on behalf of the photographer are not allowed.
• Applicants must participate using only one account.
• Employees of the organizing entity, partners, or their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.
• Photos must be related to the theme of adventure and human-powered action sports.

Photo Requirements

• Photos must have been taken after July 31, 2023.
• Photos must be captured with a camera, and the use of artificial intelligence tools to create images is not allowed.
• Only basic editing is allowed, such as adjustments to brightness, contrast, sharpness, white balance, and colors.
• Edits that change the original impression of the photo are not allowed.
• Previously published photos or photos submitted to other competitions may be entered.
• Photos taken with smartphones are accepted if they meet the quality requirements.
• Each participant may submit up to 40 photos.
• A photo may be submitted to more than one category if suitable.
• Photos must be uploaded in JPG format.
• The image size must be at least 12 megapixels.
• The file size must not exceed 10 MB.
• Digital images must include their original metadata.
• Finalists may be asked to submit the original file in RAW or TIFF format, or the original smartphone file.
