The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has opened applications for one of the United Nations volunteering opportunities in Sudan, titled Emergency Program Officer, to work on-site and full-time in Ad-Damazin, Blue Nile State, for 12 months, with the possibility of extension, with an expected start date of October 15, 2026.
This opportunity gives the volunteer the chance to gain practical experience in humanitarian work and emergency response within one of the leading United Nations agencies, while contributing to UNICEF programmes in Blue Nile and Sennar States, particularly in the areas of health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, and child protection.
Duties & responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the volunteer include:
- Providing field-level technical support to partners in water and sanitation, health and nutrition, child protection, and social and behavioral change.
- Participating in needs and gap assessments during emergency situations.
- Contributing to the preparation of humanitarian crisis response plans.
- Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of UNICEF interventions and programmes.
- Preparing periodic reports, briefs, and documents related to programme progress.
- Coordinating with United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, and local authorities.
- Supporting capacity-building for local partners.
- Contributing to the collection and analysis of field data and presenting findings to partners.
- Supporting the preparation of funding proposals and participating in coordination meetings with donors.
- Promoting the participation of local communities in programme design, implementation, and monitoring.
- Conducting regular field visits and missions as required by the assignment.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Be between 18 and 60 years old.
- Have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Be a Sudanese citizen, legal resident of Sudan, or recognized refugee in Sudan.
- Preferably be fluent in English.
- Basic knowledge of Arabic is considered an additional advantage.
- Hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in one of the following fields:
- Social Sciences.
- International Relations.
- Social Development.
- Community Development.
- A first-level university degree combined with relevant training or professional experience may be accepted in place of an advanced degree.
