Opportunity description

Dubai Design Week announces the opening of applications for Urban Commissions 2026, an annual competition that gives architects, designers, and spatial design practitioners the opportunity to develop an outdoor urban installation or pavilion within the public spaces of Dubai Design District – d3. This year’s edition is held under the theme “Atmospheres” and focuses on designing spatial interventions that transform space into a sensory, psychological, and collective experience through light, sound, materials, movement, the feeling of safety, and the way people interact with place.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applications are open to architects, spatial designers, and multidisciplinary designers.
  • The proposal must be related to the competition theme, “Atmospheres.”
  • The project must follow a responsible and sustainable design approach in terms of materials, production, construction, installation, and operation.
  • Suitable materials must be used for outdoor display and must withstand Dubai’s weather conditions.
  • The final installation must not exceed 350 kg per square meter.
  • The project must be produced fully or partially in the United Arab Emirates.
  • The applicant must be able to confirm ownership of the intellectual property rights related to the submission.
  • The applicant must be available for virtual meetings with the Dubai Design Week team.
  • The applicant must be present in Dubai to supervise the production and installation of the project.
