Opportunity description
Malbork Castle Museum announced the 27th International Biennial Exhibition of Modern Exlibris – Malbork 2020, which will take place from June to September 2020, within the historical interiors of the Malbork Castle. Only signed prints from printing plates made between 2017-2019 will be accepted for participation in the contest.
Participating Requirements:
The bookplates must fulfill the following requirements:
- A dedication with the expression “ex libris” or its substitute should be integrally connected with the field of composition.
- The dedication should consist of the full name of the living owner or name of the existing institution.
- In the case of using initials – the full name of the owner should be given on the reverse of the bookplate.
- In the case of an additional text on a bookplate in other than the Latin alphabet, the English transcription should be given on the reverse of the bookplate or in the Application Form.
- The reverse of each print should have the following data (written with a pencil): name of the author, measurements of the bookplate, graphic technique, year of creation, opus number and subject (motif), as well as the number according to the list contained in the Application Form.
- The measurement of the longer side of the print should not exceed 15 cm and of the printing paper 22 cm.
- A participant may enter maximum 5 various bookplates.
Any exlibris sent without an Application Form shall not be eligible for the contest. An applicant can download the Application Form from the contest organizer's website: http://biennale.zamek.malbork.pl/
Selection:
Submitted works will be selected for the exhibition by a jury assembled by the contest organizers. The jury debate will be held in March 2020. The jury's decisions are final. Every participant qualified for the exhibition will receive an exhibition catalog.
Prizes:
The authors of the best sets of work will be awarded Honorary Medals and Certificates, as well as three monetary prizes:
- Prize 6.000,00 PLN
- Prize 5.000,00 PLN
- Prize 4.000,00 PLN
The following special prizes will also be awarded:
- The Award of the President of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers
- The Mayor of Malbork's Award
- Henryk Feilhauer's Golden Burin for young artists (up to 30 years old) for the best copperplate
- The Award of the Director of the Malbork Castle Museum
- The Award of the Society of Polish Bibliophiles at Warsaw
- Janusz Mikołaj Szymański Commemorative Medal founded by Barbara Klein-Szymańska
Cash prizes shall be taxed subject to current regulations.

The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork is a 13th-century Teutonic castle and fortress located near the town of Malbork, Poland. It is the largest castle in the world measured by land area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
