The Medicinal Bioconvergence Research Center from Seoul National University, Sponsored by Ministry of Science and ICT in the Republic of Korea and Museum of Art in Seoul National University, announced the launch of its seventh annual Bio-Art Competition, which began in 2013 and covers a different theme each year.

The Competition Theme:

The theme of this year is “The Beauty of Life” which aims to create a culture of life that has been forgotten in society. “The Beauty of Life” can be expressed in different ways as a weed that survives the cold winter in a small crack of asphalt road, or a picture of a brain-dead patient who gives new life through organ donation, or a picture of a blind artist who draws hope with a touch of his hand.

  • Digital photographs.
  • Microphotographs.
  • Computer graphics.
  • Video clip.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Individuals and groups (maximum of 4 members) can apply.
  • Digital pictures and Computer graphics: 300dpi or higher resolution, A2 paper size, the file format should be JPEG or TIFF and No watermark or caption.
  • Microphotograph: It should be sent with the maximum resolution supported by the device.
  • The Video clips: Its screen size should be in 1280×720 pixels or wider. File size should not exceed 100MB, Playtime should be within 3 minutes and File format should be MPEG4 (you may select H.264/AVC1 as compression codec).

Note: In the case of picture (painting, drawing, etc.), it can be submitted if it can be scanned in accordance with the required size.

Prizes:

  • Grand Prize (1 individual or team): certificate + Prize of KRW 3,000,000.
  • Runner-up Prize (3 individual(s) or team): certificate + Prize of KRW 1,000,000.
  • Participation Prize (10 individual(s) or team): certificate + Prize of KRW 200,000.
  • Selection Prize (20 individual(s) or team): certificate.

Additional Rules:

  • All award-winning works will not be returned.
  • For the prize money, public charge and tax will be levied on the winner.
  • Depending on the quality and quantity of candidate works, the prize-giving details are subject to change.
  • In case of the works already won the prize from other contests or similar works to other works, awards will be canceled.
  • the prize money should be returned and the prize will be invalidated, in case of legal issues around submitted works and award-winning works, such as plagiarism, or copyrights.
  • In case of the works submitted via email without consultation with the committee in an email/phone call, works will be ignored
  • Except for the award-winning works, candidates are allowed to retrieve their works from 2 December 2019 to 31 December 2019, closed on (Saturday, Sunday, and national holidays). The rights on the works not retrieved will belong to Medicinal Bio-Convergence Research Center.
