Opportunity description

The University of Otago invites students from all over the world to apply for Master Scholarships in Professional Accounting for 2020. The Master of Professional Accounting provides an opportunity for graduates with little or no experience or qualifications in accounting to pursue professional accreditation through an intensive course of study and applied research over a period of 18 months. On completion of the degree, students can gain professional membership. These scholarships are awarded on academic merit, as decided by the Department of Accountancy and Finance.

About the Master of Professional Accounting program:

In recent years, the nature of accounting in the global business workplace has moved from being principally the preparation of financial reports to now include the role of business advisor and consultant. Most students seeking graduate placements in the field of accounting will have completed a standard three-year undergraduate degree in this subject. You will undertake advanced learning in both theory and professional practice and learn to tackle accounting and business problems in innovative ways. Otago’s Master of Professional Accounting provides an opportunity for graduates with little or no experience or qualifications in accounting to pursue professional accreditation through an intensive course of study and applied research over a period of 18 months. On completion of the degree, students can gain professional accreditation and membership to industry associations

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. International students with an undergraduate degree, apart from Accounting, with grades equivalent to an NZ B average (GPA 3/4) and who meet the University of Otago's English Language requirements.
  2. Accounting graduates who studied their undergraduate degree in a foreign language may be considered for admission, and students who have work experience are welcome to apply.
  3. To be eligible to be awarded the scholarship, students must have an unconditional offer (including meeting English language requirements) by 5pm, 31 October 2019 (NZ time). Applicants may be offered the scholarship before 31 October, but if they have not met their conditions by this date, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn.
  4. No deferrals allowed
  5. Current international students at the University of Otago are eligible to apply.
  6. Students who have been awarded another University of Otago scholarship are not eligible to be awarded this scholarship.

Scholarship Amount:

10 scholarship will be awarded to international students, each worth NZ$10,000 starting in the first semester (February), 2020.
