The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers postdoctoral researchers the chance to apply for the Georg Forster Research Fellowships. The fellowship enables highly-qualified scientists and scholars from developing countries to carry out their research of their own choice at a research institution in Germany (from 6 to 24 months) together with an academic host that they have chosen.
Conditions
The research outline must include aspects that are important for the continued development of the applicant´s country or region of origin and must contribute to the exchange of knowledge and methods between Germany and their country of origin.
What the foundation will offer
- A monthly fellowship of €2,650 for postdoctoral researchers (doctorate completed within the last four years) or €3,150 for experienced researchers (doctorate completed within the last 12 years).
- A flexible starting date and - for experienced researchers - the option of splitting the fellowship up into a maximum of three stays.
- Individual mentoring during the sponsorship period.
- Intensive German language course for fellows and their marital partners prior to the fellowship.
- Additional financial support for accompanying family members and items like travel expenses and comprehensive alumni sponsorship once the research stay has come to an end, such as a Return Fellowship or further stays in Germany.
About organization
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is a foundation established by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany and funded by the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development as well as other national and international partners; it promotes international academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from Germany and from abroad. The Foundation grants more than 700 competitive research fellowships and awards, primarily going to academics from natural sciences (mathematics included) and the humanities. It allows scientists and scholars from all over the world to come to Germany to work on a research project they have chosen themselves together with a host and collaborative partner. Additionally it funds German scholars' via the Feodor Lynen Fellowships to go anywhere in the world to work on a research project with a host and collaborative partner.
