Opportunity description
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and INJAZ in Jordan have launched “A National Volunteer Initiative for Youth” to promote and spread the volunteering culture in the Jordanian society. The initiative motivates young people of all ages and from all places to contribute in building this culture with key partnerships of the public, private and civil society organizations. It is launched as part of a national campaign across the Kingdom to highlighting the role of youth as an integral part of volunteering. It will provide youth who is the largest segment of the Jordanian society with various opportunities to demonstrate their potential and build their capacity and expertise believing that it will bring positive outcomes on the community in return. The initiative works with various sectors to institutionalize volunteering and build on what has been achieved in this field at the national level, as well as open a wide range of national partnerships to provide as many volunteer opportunities as possible. The national initiative has adopted the slogan "Volunteer and Build a Generation’s Culture” with the belief that the values of volunteering are important to build an empowered generation capable of transforming the challenges into opportunities through the establishment of innovative community initiatives that contribute to solving these challenges. All this increases the opportunity of young people entering the labor market, as the initiative continues to expand through arranging a range of events and campaigns on the media to reach different people of the society.
Applicants must be residents of Jordan and must be interested in developing themselves and their skills as well as making positive changes in their communities through volunteering.
Successful applicants will be able to participate in many events organized by UNICEF and INJAZ as part of their national initiative, as well as being given the opportunity to gain some personal and professional skills through interaction with people from different backgrounds. In its advanced stages, the initiative will include a digital platform that will be developed to enable young people to set up their own online accounts and provide training in the field of volunteering, life skills and employment.
What is INJAZ Initiative?
INJAZ was founded in 1999 as a project under a USAID-funded program, Save the Children. In 2001, INJAZ became an independent, nonprofit Jordanian organization. Over the past 18 years, it has established itself as a leading solution provider linking the public, private, and civil society sectors to bridge the skills gap between the educational system and the changing needs of the labor market.
What is UNICEF?
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is a United Nations program headquartered in New York City that provides humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. It was created with the purpose of working with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. It advocates for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.
