Opportunity description

The Youth Assembly offers a grant opportunity and invites youth from all over the world to participate in a competition for projects; AFS Award for Young Global Citizens. This award recognizes young people for their commitment to improving the global community and whose actions contribute to a more just, peaceful, and tolerant world. As well, you will have the chance to make connections with young leaders from all over the world.

  • Interact with panels of experts and leaders in various areas.
  • Engage in in-depth discussions or activities to develop practical skills.
  • The winner will receive $10,000.
  • Two additional $2,500 prizes will be awarded to the runners-up.

Eligibility criteria

You will be awarded this award if you:

  • Have been accepted as Youth Assembly delegate and be 18-32 years old.
  • Have a proven track record of leadership experience, or community involvement.
  • Interest in global affairs, sustainable development, and youth issues.
  • Proficient in English (Intermediate Level).
  • Demonstrates how your project is successfully addressing a pressing global issue.
  • Tackle one or more of the challenges outlined by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and what this translates into in real-life impacts.
  • Shows how your project successfully engages others outside your own community/culture and how this aspect is crucial to advancing your work. 
  • Articulates how your initiative has significant potential to be scaled up and extended.
  • Projects must rely on intercultural understanding and global competence.

About the Youth Assembly:

The Youth Assembly was founded in 2004 by the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation (FAF), a not-for-profit organization with a history that dates back to 1958. It is considered a global platform that cultivates an international network of young leaders and change makers through the exchange, education, action, and impact. It empowers the next generation with opportunities to connect with like-minded peers, trailblazers, and influencers; develop global competence and critical skills, and transform their vision for a better future into action.
