Ritsumeikan University in Japan offers the Ritsumeikan University Tuition Reduction Scheme 2027 for international students admitted to undergraduate programmes taught in English.

This opportunity is one of the Bachelor’s scholarships in Japan for international students, offering tuition reductions of 20%, 50%, or 100% during the first year. The level of tuition reduction is determined based on the admission results and the applicant’s academic evaluation.

The strongest applicants, up to approximately the top 10% of the admission capacity, may receive a 100% tuition exemption, while the next group of applicants may receive a 50% reduction, and other eligible students may receive a 20% reduction.

Benefits

The university offers three levels of tuition reduction during the first year:

  • Category 1: 100% tuition fee exemption for the strongest applicants, covering approximately the top 10% of the admission capacity.
  • Category 2: 50% tuition fee reduction for the next group of applicants.
  • Category 3: 20% tuition fee reduction for the remaining eligible admitted students who do not receive Category 1 or Category 2.

For students enrolling in the GS Major in 2027, the standard annual tuition fee is JPY 1,469,200. Therefore, the payable amount becomes:

  • 100% exemption: JPY 0 in tuition fees.
  • 50% reduction: JPY 734,600 payable.
  • 20% reduction: JPY 1,175,360 payable.

Eligibility criteria

To benefit from the tuition reduction, applicants must:

  • Apply to and be admitted to an eligible undergraduate programme at Ritsumeikan University.
  • Meet the university’s admission requirements, including completion of 12 years of school education or a recognized equivalent qualification.
  • Meet the English language requirements for the selected programme.
  • Hold Student residence status in Japan by the time of enrollment.
  • Indicate their intention to apply for the scholarship while completing the online admission application.
  • Have a strong academic record, particularly to compete for the 50% or 100% tuition reduction.
