Opportunity description

The University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in chemical ecology. The fellowship is offered within a research project investigating molecular diversity and its role in shaping interactions between plants and herbivorous animals.

The selected researcher will join a specialized research team studying the molecular and chemical mechanisms that regulate insect–plant interactions, with a particular focus on olfactory proteins responsible for detecting volatile organic compounds.

The fellow will conduct advanced research using modern molecular biology and analytical chemistry techniques, contributing to a deeper understanding of ecological relationships and the development of scientific knowledge in chemical ecology.

Benefits

  • Receive a monthly stipend of BRL 12,570.
  • Join an advanced research project in chemical ecology.
  • Work at the Institute of Chemistry at the University of São Paulo.
  • Use modern molecular biology and analytical chemistry techniques.
  • Gain experience in analyzing olfactory proteins and plant–insect interactions.
  • Collaborate with specialists in chemistry, biology, and ecology.
  • Publish scientific research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in chemical ecology.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD.
  • Have experience in chemical ecology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Possess experience studying olfactory proteins or plant–insect interactions.
  • Be familiar with molecular biology techniques and protein analysis.
  • Have practical experience in one or more of the following techniques:
    • Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
    • RNA sequencing (RNA-seq).
    • Gene expression analysis.
    • Molecular cloning and protein expression.
  • Be proficient in English.
  • Be capable of conducting independent scientific research and working effectively within a research team.

Required Documents

  • An updated curriculum vitae in PDF format.
  • A letter of interest outlining the applicant’s research experience and motivation for applying.
