Opportunity description

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has opened applications for an Emergency Programme Officer position in Kosti, Sudan, under a full-time international volunteer assignment for 9 months, with the possibility of extension. The expected start date is October 15, 2026.

The volunteer will support UNICEF’s emergency response in southern Sudan and contribute to the planning, implementation, and monitoring of programs related to health, nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), education, child protection, and Social and Behaviour Change (SBC), while also coordinating with local and international partners.

Duties & responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing field-based technical support to partners across UNICEF’s areas of intervention.
  • Participating in assessments of needs and gaps during humanitarian emergencies.
  • Contributing to the development of emergency response plans.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and interventions.
  • Preparing progress reports, briefing notes, and other required documents.
  • Coordinating with United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, and local authorities.
  • Supporting capacity-building efforts for local partners.
  • Collecting and analyzing field data to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Preparing and presenting findings to partners and stakeholders.
  • Supporting the preparation of funding proposals and providing updates on the context and identified needs.
  • Participating in coordination meetings with donors.
  • Supporting the engagement of local communities in program design and monitoring.
  • Conducting regular field visits within the area of operation.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 80 years old.
  • Have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Be a national of a country other than Sudan.

Academic Qualification

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in one of the following fields:

  • Social Sciences.
  • International Relations.
  • Social Development.
  • Community Development.
  • Or a related field.
