Opportunity description

The Arab Theatre Institute announces the launch of the first edition of the Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Award for Arab Theatrical Excellence for Youth 2026. It is an annual award that aims to honor outstanding Arab youth in the field of theatre and support their role in developing and renewing Arab theatre. In its first edition, the award focuses on three main fields: playwriting, theatre directing, and theatrical performance/acting.

Award Fields

  1. Playwriting.
  2. Theatre directing.
  3. Theatrical performance / acting.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. The applicant’s excellence and uniqueness in the nominated field.
  2. Originality in ideas, content, and artistic working methods.
  3. The critical and media impact of the applicant’s works and their continuity in production.
  4. Artistic contribution and innovation in form, content, and treatment.
  5. The work’s connection to issues affecting people and Arab societies within a broader human perspective.

Benefits

  • Each winner receives a cash prize worth USD 10,000.
  • The winner receives the Arab Theatre Institute’s Golden Icon.
  • The winner receives a certificate of achievement.
  • One winner will be selected in each of the three award fields.
  • The award will be presented during the Arab Theatre Festival in January 2027.

Eligibility criteria

  1. The applicant must be Arab and hold the nationality of one of the Arab countries.
  2. The award includes Arabs residing in non-Arab countries, as well as dual nationals.
  3. The applicant must fall within the targeted youth age group of 30 to 40 years.
  4. The applicant must not be over 40 years old at the start of the nomination period.
  5. The applicant may apply in only one of the three fields.
  6. The applicant must have at least 3 published and documented works in their field.
  7. The submitted works must be original and not adapted from other works.
  8. Intellectual property rights must be respected, and approvals from partners must be obtained when needed.

  3. Copy of academic certificate.
  4. CV.
  5. Downloadable video links of creative works.
  6. Photos of artistic works.
  7. Press kit.
  8. Certificates of awards, honors, or recognition, if available.
  9. Declaration confirming the accuracy of the information and documents.
  10. The theatrical texts created by the applicant, if applying for the playwriting field.
