UNDP is looking to hirea full-time Social Cohesion Specialist with Enhanced Rural Resilience in Yemen (ERRY) with an annual salary of 24,023 USD.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provision of advisory support to project implementation, including delivery of technical, operational, financial and administrative outputs and tracking the progress of the project by monitoring and reporting:

  1. Oversee the contracting process of implementing partners and contractors for the social cohesion of the project and provide related technical advice, including budget, work plans and capacity assessments, according to UNDP rules and regulations;
  2. Develop a monitoring and evaluation framework for the social cohesion activities, in close coordination with the UNDP M&E Specialist, according to UNDP rules and regulations, and standards for donor reporting
  3. Prepare reports in English and Arabic on social cohesion activities, for internal and external audiences such as UNDP management and donors;
  4. Conduct spot checks and field visits to project location sites;
  5. Record issues, risks and lessons learned before, during and after project completion.

Capacity building and provision of technical advice to relevant project stakeholders on social cohesion and insider mediators’ approaches:

  1. Develop the capacities of stakeholders on key technical and managerial areas where UNDP support would be beneficial;
  2. Develop the capacities of UNDP staff in the area of social cohesion, with a focus on field staff in targeted Governorates.

Development and strengthening of strategic partnerships and linkages:

  1. Develop strong relationships with the implementing partners/contractors, liaising with relevant actors to promote linkages between ERRY UNDP social cohesion activities and other participating UN agencies to the ERRY joint programme to maximise impact;
  2. Prepare substantive briefs on possible areas of cooperation, identifying opportunities for joint initiatives, and recommending approaches to the management team in terms of recommended activities with potential for scaleup and replicability; 

Knowledge management/development and communications:

  1. Identification of sources of information related to policy-driven issues;
  2. Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learnt into project goals;
  3. Contribute to timely communication and outreach, in close coordination with the Communications Specialist, through social media, success stories, blog and press releases;
  4. Share relevant and substantive and operational experiences with other colleagues and counterparts; (Develop knowledge products to be shared with the Project partners). 

Gender mainstreaming throughout the social cohesion component:

  1. Ensure gender is effectively mainstreamed throughout the social cohesion component, work plans, budgets, reports, researches, analyses and, where specifically relevant, analysed in detail; 
  2. Ensure knowledge on gender equality is incorporated in the project’s knowledge management activities and products. 

The incumbent of the position should avoid any kind of discriminatory behavior including gender discrimination and ensure that:

  1. human rights and gender equality is prioritized as an ethical principle within all actions;
  2. activities are designed and implemented in accordance with “Social and Environmental Standards of UNDP”;
  3. any kind of diversities based on ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion, class, gender are respected within all implementations including data production;
  4. differentiated needs of women and men are considered;
  5. inclusive approach is reflected within all actions and implementations, in that sense an enabling and accessible setup in various senses such as disability gender language barrier is create;
  6. necessary arrangements to provide gender parity within all committees, meetings, trainings etc. introduced.

Required Skills and Experience


  • Master's degree in social cohesion, conflict resolution and peacebuilding or related fields.


  1. At least three years of experience in the areas of social cohesion, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, preferably at the sub-national level.
  2. A first-level university degree may be accepted with additional relevant qualification experience for two years rather than an advanced university degree.
  3. Experience in providing technical advisory support to resilience projects with strong emphasis on social cohesion at the community level.
  4. Wide knowledge of informal actors and existing mediation and conflict capacities at the community level.
  5. Experience in communicating with local authorities, institutions and non-governmental organizations to achieve results.
  6. Experiences in implementing / managing community activities based on social cohesion and conflict resolution.
  7. The special experience of management in those activities in the geographical objectives in the ERRY are assets.
  8. Strong understanding and experience in applying the management of different results and tools.
  9. Excellent knowledge of computer, communication, writing reports and analytical skills.
  10. Previous experiences in the United Nations system and coordination with civil society are strong assets.
  11. A strong record of gender mainstreaming and programming conflict.
