The Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year 2021 competition is open to photographers aged 18 and over.
Individuals employed by Africa Geographic may not enter. Employees of sponsorship partners may enter, except if they are immediate family members of owners/shareholders of those sponsors.
Only entries that are of African wildlife, landscapes, and/or culture will be accepted.
All entries must be the original work of the participant, who has not relinquished relevant rights to a third party, and by submitting the entry, the participant claims that this is so.
Multiple entries are permitted.
Entrant photos must be taken anywhere on the African continent and associated islands.
Entries depicting any form of wildlife should be of “wild” animals – no photos of captive wildlife (including farm animals, petting facilities, household pets, and zoo animals) will be considered. Photos of rescue/rehabilitation animals may be considered at the sole discretion of the organisers.
Entries should be a faithful representation of the original scene. Post-production adjustments should be used appropriately, and not to deceive the viewer or misrepresent the reality. No composite images will be permitted.
The competition organisers reserve the right to refuse photos that in their sole judgement are unsuitable for publishing in this competition, for whatever reason they deem fit.
Entries that have previously, or at any time before the finalisation of this competition, won other national or international photographic competition/s (including subject category winners) will not be considered.
Submissions Specifications:-
Entries submitted to Africa Geographic should not exceed 2MB in size (per photo).
Entries must be submitted in JPG or PNG format as per the requirements on the online form. The organisers may request RAW and high-resolution photos and refusal will result in that entry being disqualified and any prizes forfeited.
No borders or copyright watermarks are permitted on photos submitted, a copyright symbol along with the photographer’s name will be added by Africa Geographic
Please provide either your Facebook or Instagram username/handle (@username) if you would like Africa Geographic to tag you if/when it shares your photo.
Prizes:-
The winner will receive a cash prize of USD5,000 and the two runners-up will receive a cash prize of USD2,500 each.
The overall winner (plus partner) and the two runners-up (plus their partners) will enjoy a group safari with Africa Geographic’s CEO and his wife.
This ultimate private safari will include 5 nights all paid in Khwai Private Reserve, Botswana in two of Natural Selection’s camps.
Africa Geographic will pay for all costs of this safari once the group members arrive in Maun for departure to Khwai – excluding gratuities and items of a personal nature. Winners must organise their own transport to and from Maun International Airport in Botswana, and overnight costs in Maun (if required).
The prizes are non-transferable. The organisers reserve the right to substitute the listed prizes with an alternative of equal value (but the entrant shall not have any right to demand this). The prizes must be claimed within the dates specified, or they will be forfeited.
