Opportunity description
Never Such Innocence invites talented youth to a competition; Free Creative Arts Competition for Young People 2021/22. Share your thoughts on how people, communities, and countries build a life after conflict using poetry, art, speech, and song. Through trying these actions: rebuild, reflect, remember, you will have opportunities for reflection and appear your creativity.

If you are among the winners, you will have one of the following prizes:
- 1st Place Poetry: Poetry Workshop with Nik Perring.
- 1st Place Art: Bespoke Art Pack.
- 1st Place Speech: Bespoke Creative Writing Pack.
- 1st Place Songwriting: Songwriting Workshop with Otto.
- 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Prize Winners: NSI Notebook.
- In the 16-18 Category - As a special prize from the Volksbund, four young people have the chance to participate in a two-week international youth camp in summer 2023.
Please note: During the summer camps:
- Young people from all over Europe deal with history and peacekeeping.
- Support the preservation of the war gravesite and visit interesting places in the surrounding area.
Eligibility criteria
You must follow these terms:
- Entries are divided into the following four age categories:
- Age 9-11; age 11-14; age 14-16; and age 16-18.
- Entries must draw on the competition theme: Life After Conflict.
- All submissions are given a unique entry number to anonymize the judging process.
- Only one entry to each category per individual or group will be accepted; entrants may enter multiple categories.
- Works may be written in any language.
- Consist of the contestant's own work and should not infringe any copyrights.
- Submitted works should be either typed or legibly handwritten.
- Entries from entrants aged 15 and under must be submitted by an adult (e.g. parent/guardian or teacher) on behalf of the entrant.
- The copyright of each entry remains with the author.
- By entering the competition, the author grants the right to publish and/or broadcast their work.

Competition Categories
- Poems:
- Must have a title and must not exceed 40 lines in length.
- Artwork:
- All artwork must have a title.
- Accept artwork in the form of sculptures and models; paintings and sketches; photography and digital mediums.
- Artwork may be produced in any medium such as watercolors, pastels, charcoals, pencils, acrylic, crayons, paper cuttings, oil paints, photography, or digital media.
- When submitting your entry, you will be asked to share a high-quality photograph or scan of your artwork.
- Song:
- Songs must be no longer than 4 minutes.
- Songs will be judged based on melody, composition, originality, and lyrics. The quality of production will not be considered.
- All writers will retain the rights to their original material - with the exception that a submission will grant a license in perpetuity to Never Such Innocence to exploit the song.
- Please include a recording (video or audio) of your song AND written lyrics.
- Speech:
- Speeches must be no longer than 5 minutes (maximum of 750 words).
- Please include a recording (video or audio) of your speech AND written text.
About Never Such Innocence:
At Never Such Innocence, it aims to give children and young people across the world a voice on conflict. It offers opportunities to reflect on conflict throughout history and today through poetry, art, and song. The charity began as a First World War commemoration project for children and young people. Inspired by this conflict, more than 11,000 young people from 47 different countries, territories, and dependencies created poetry, artwork, and songs. From 2019 it expanded its focus to include Conflict in all forms and throughout history, up to and including the present day.
