Al Alfi Foundation, in collaboration with the American University in Cairo, is offering a joint fellowship for Egyptian students to pursue a master's degree in science in Sustainable Development for a period of two years with a review every semester for satisfactory academic performance. The program is designed to identify and prepare future Egyptian leaders who have strong knowledge and skills in science, engineering, business, policy, and social sciences. Fellowship applicants must possess professional experience and exceptional skills, as well as an outstanding passion for sustainable development. Three candidates will be accepted into the program on a yearly basis. The long-term objective of the program is to develop a new cadre of entrepreneurial leaders who are capable of filling critical positions in industry, public sector and civil society organizations in Egypt, and who can successfully integrate technical, business and social skills to contribute to comprehensive sustainable development in Egypt and beyond.
Responsibilities of Fellows
Complete the program in two years and participate in a number of relevant extra-curricular activities (events, seminars, workshops, training sessions, volunteering and community service) in order to enrich their experience and become leaders in sustainable development. In support of their training, fellows are assigned 12 hours per week of related academic work.
Benefits
The fellowship covers:
- A full or partial tuition fees, for a maximum of nine credits per semester.

Eligibility criteria
- Egyptian nationals.
- Candidates must have a background in science, engineering, policy, business or social sciences.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent of (very good).

- Provide a written statement that outlines their research and/or professional experience, as well as their future career goals.
- Financial need.
Required Documents:
For an application to be processed, the following documents must be included:
- Application form - Filled out as per the instructions indicated at the end of the form.
- Personal Statement - (Form 2) of no less than 500 words. Applicants selecting two programs for admission consideration should include two separate statements.
- Updated CV that must include work experience and educational background.
- Official transcript(s) from all higher education institutions attended, with proof of degree completion. Unofficial, clear, scanned copies are acceptable for processing purposes, but final admission is not granted until the original, official transcripts are submitted, reviewed and approved by the Office of Graduate Admissions.
- Two letters of recommendation at least.
- Medical reports: Prior to registration, only newly admitted graduate students are required to submit a soft copy of a recent medical report to AUC’s Medical Clinic. Students with special medical requirements, or those who would prefer that the clinic be aware of any specific medical conditions/needs, will get to communicate directly with the specialists at the clinic, once on campus.
- Proof of financial resources to meet costs of AUC.
