Opportunity description

The Drawing Institute will award one nine-month Postdoctoral Fellowship to a scholar in the first decade of their career following the completion of the Ph.D or equivalent advanced degree. The Postdoctoral Fellowship supports an independent research project, ideally working toward a clearly defined publication relating to some aspect of the history, theory, collecting, function, or interpretation of drawings.

Requirements:

The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to spend her/his fellowship period in residence at the Morgan Library & Museum. The majority of the Fellow’s time will be spent on the research project for which the fellowship is awarded, but the Fellow is expected to participate fully in the intellectual life of the Morgan and to attend Drawing Institute programs during her/his tenure. The Fellow may be asked to assist in the planning and implementation of Drawing Institute programs. The Fellow will present a progress report on his/her research at the conclusion of the fellowship.

Benefits:

$40,500 stipend for 9 months, generally expected to run between September/October 2021 - May/June 2022, plus a travel allowance intended to support or subsidize a short research trip. If a fellowship is sought for a specific time (e.g. around a professor’s semester-long sabbatical), that should be clearly indicated in the application.

Notes:

  • Health insurance is not provided by the Morgan institute.
  • The Fellow is expected to make his/her own travel and housing arrangements.
  • For foreign applicants, non-financial assistance with procuring a visa is provided.
  • The fellowship is non-renewable.
